Information on Zinc EDTA
Zinc EDTA is a derivative of Ethylenediamine Tetraacetic Acid (EDTA). EDTA is a synthetic amino acid and a sequestering/chelating agent. The acid form is a white powder that is insoluble in water. Its salts and derivatives are used to dissolve metallic impurities. EDTA works by grabbing metallic cations like lead or calcium and forming a stable compound that is then excreted from the system.
Synthesis / Manufacturing Process of Zinc EDTA
The compound was first prepared in 1935 by Ferdinand Munz from Ethylenediamine (EDA) and Monochloroacetic acid.

Uses / Applications of Zinc EDTA
Zinc EDTA is a sequestering agent used in agriculture to prevent zinc deficiency in plants. It is more effective than Zinc Sulphate because plants can easily absorb zinc from Zinc EDTA.
Role of Zinc in Plant Growth:
It helps plant growth hormones and enzyme systems.
It plays an important role in chlorophyll production.
