AMMONIUM IODIDE
Product Category: IODIDES
Product: AMMONIUM IODIDE Product Code: A012
Information on Ammonium Iodide
Ammonium Iodide is a derivative of Iodine. It is a white crystalline powder with a melting point of 551∘C. It is freely soluble in water. Ammonium Iodide gradually turns yellow in color if left open for a long time due to decomposition with the liberation of Iodine. It should be stored in tightly closed containers at room temperature.
Synthesis / Manufacturing Process of Iodides
The major raw material for all Iodides is Elemental Iodine. Iodine was discovered in 1811 in France. It is a non-metallic element of the Halogen Group, with a melting point of 114∘C. Iodine is found in Caliche, a sedimentary rock hardened with deposits of Calcium Carbonate (mainly found in Chile) and also in brine extracted with natural gas (especially found in Japan and the USA). Ammonium Iodide is manufactured by a reaction between Ammonia and Hydriodic Acid.
