SODIUM IODIDE
Product Category: IODIDE
Product: SODIUM IODIDE Product Code: B008
Information on Sodium Iodide
Sodium Iodide is a derivative of Iodine. It is a white crystalline powder with a melting point of 661∘C. Sodium Iodide is freely soluble in water and is hygroscopic in nature. It should be stored in tightly closed containers at room temperature.
Synthesis / Manufacturing Process of Iodides
The major raw material of all Iodides is Elemental Iodine. Iodine was first discovered in France in 1811. Iodine is a non-metallic element of the Halogen Group with a melting point of 114∘C. It is found in Caliche, a sedimentary rock hardened with deposits of Calcium Carbonate (mainly in Chile), and also in the brine extracted with natural gas (especially in Japan & USA). Sodium Iodide is manufactured by a reaction between Iodine (I2) and Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH).
