Information on Ferric sodium EDTA
Ferric sodium EDTA is a derivative of Ethylenediamine Tetraacetic Acid (EDTA). EDTA is a synthetic amino acid and a sequestering/chelating agent. The acid form is a white powder that is insoluble in water. It is used to dissolve metallic impurities. EDTA grabs metallic cations like lead or calcium and forms a stable compound that is then excreted from the system.
Synthesis / Manufacturing Process of Ferric sodium EDTA
The compound was first prepared in 1935 by Ferdinand Munz from Ethylenediamine (EDA) and Monochloroacetic acid.
