HYDROGEN IODIDE
Product Category: IODIDES
Product: HYDROGEN IODIDE Product Code: B006
Information on Hydrogen Iodide
Hydrogen Iodide is a derivative of Iodine. It is a clear to pale yellow liquid with a characteristic pungent, sulphide-like odor. It has a boiling point of 127∘C and should be stored in tightly closed containers at room temperature.
Synthesis / Manufacturing Process of Iodides
The major raw material of all Iodides is Elemental Iodine. Iodine was first discovered in France in 1811. Iodine is a non-metallic element of the Halogen Group with a melting point of 114∘C. It is found in Caliche, a sedimentary rock hardened with deposits of Calcium Carbonate (mainly in Chile), and also in the brine extracted with natural gas (especially in Japan & USA). Hydrogen Iodide is manufactured by bubbling Hydrogen Sulphide gas through an aqueous solution of Iodine.
