Information on Cuprous Iodide
Cuprous Iodide is a derivative of Iodine. It is an off-white colored powder with a melting point of 506∘C. It is soluble in Ammonia and Potassium solutions. Cuprous Iodide should be stored in tightly closed containers at room temperature.
Synthesis / Manufacturing Process of Iodides
The major raw material for all Iodides is Elemental Iodine. Iodine, a non-metallic element of the Halogen Group, was first discovered in France in 1811 and has a melting point of 114∘C. It is found in Caliche, a sedimentary rock with deposits of Calcium Carbonate mainly found in Chile, and also in brine extracted with natural gas in Japan and the USA. Cuprous Iodide is manufactured by treating Copper Sulphate with Hydriodic Acid.
